Sleep where are you….

So I have my last exam tomorrow. It is currently 1am and my brain just will not let me sleep.

I am so tired but my thoughts won’t shut up.

It doesn’t help that the weather has suddenly turned muggy recently, and the aircon is on Hubby’s side of the bed and it doesn’t seem to be doing much.

Please sleep, let me get at least 6hrs before I have to get up.

Procrasti-blogging

I know I said that I would disappear until the end of exams… but I got bored with studying and had to write something.

And the taco casserole recipe I’ve got set for Friday was just TOO GOOD not to share with you all.

Now I should really get back to studying.

YAY exams :S

Semester is almost over!

I have now officially finished classes for the semester, and I’ve only got a little more than 2 weeks until my exams are all done too.

YAY HOLIDAYS!!!!!! Not-so-yay being the fact that OMG SUMMER IS HERE AND IT’S GOING TO BE DISGUSTINGLY HOT.

I’m aiming to get in a better habit of writing blog posts over the break though, so there should be a bit more reading material for you all!

I’ll probably disappear now until my exams are over. See you on the other side!

Job hunting

I’m applying for an AIN position at the nursing home where I’m doing my placement… But this means giving them my resume, which I haven’t even LOOKED at since 2010.

I now have to find the file and update said resume tonight, so I can submit my application tomorrow (seeing as tomorrow is our last day of prac).

This is going to be fun.

Discoveries

I just found my list of “Goals for 2015”, and it’s interesting to see how many I’ve already been doing, even without actually looking at the list (heck, I forgot it even existed!). I originally posted these on the blog back in January as part of the “New Year New Life” series (Day 6 is where I have my goal list).

For each of the categories, here’s how I’ve done this year:

Relationships – have still been a bit slack with the “writing to grandparents” thing, but I’ve done better with the other two items (setting aside time for Hubby & not feeling guilty about saying “no”).

Organisation & Management – I’ve gotten MUCH better at keeping up-to-date with the housework, and I think that is partly because our house is half the size of our old one.
I’ve culled my wardrobe, and now it’s only got the style of things I wear and like (except for the dresses. I didn’t get rid of many of those because I only really wear dresses in summer. If I don’t wear them this summer I’ll get rid of them). I also bought a few new items that are in keeping with my style.
I haven’t done quite so well with the “fix it immediately or chuck it” thing – my mending pile is still a reasonable size, because there are a few items I can’t bring myself to get rid of. This sort of comes under the “stop holding onto things that are not useful/required” thing too.
I’ve been mostly planning out my days in the morning and following that plan – it doesn’t always go how I want it too, I’m still consistently putting too many things on my to-do list for a particular day.

Health & Beauty – I have been quite good at eating proper meals at proper times, as well as making packed lunches for uni. I started out making Hubby’s lunch for him the night before, but that fell off during exam time last semester and now he just makes his own. I’ve also managed to significantly reduce the amount of pre-packaged/pre-mixed foods we buy, and I have gotten to the point where 90% of our food is made from scratch. I still buy a few things that I can’t replicate at home (like a particular brand of chic-chip cookies that are SO ADDICTIVE and tinned fruits).
I’ve been driving far less since we moved to this new house. I’ll generally ride my bike to & from uni or get Hubby to drop me off and walk home, and I walk to the shops. Just recently, I’ve taken to driving to do the shopping, because I’ve discovered a really good & cheap fruit&veg shop in the big shopping centre that’s about 15mins drive away.
I’ve been very good at making sure I get at least 7hrs of sleep per night, but I haven’t really done much yoga this year. I’ve been doing more pretty stuff with my hair now it’s longer though – I can finally put it up in a proper ponytail, and even use one of those bun donut things! I’ve recently bought a whole heap of new earrings and pretty hair clips too, because for prac we’re supposed to have our hair all up and no dangly earrings (I bought a whole heap of pretty studs).

Creativity – I haven’t set up a reading corner, mainly because we don’t really have the furniture to do it and we can’t afford to buy it atm. I’ve been reading recreationally still though, and I’ve been trying new recipes regularly. I was doing fairly well with the “blogging regularly” thing until I got out of the habit over the June-July break. I’m going to try and do better from now on.

University – so far, I’m maintaining a GPA of 6.25 (WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!), I generally stick to my designated “study hours” (except for assignments), and I THINK I’ve been able to improve my study practices.
I’ve been wasting less time online, mainly because I’ve stayed off of Facebook. That thing is a complete blackhole! I don’t seem have replaced the time I would have spent on Facebook with other websites though, I still use them about the same amount that I did when I was using Facebook.
I still procrastinate, BADLY. Particularly procrasti-baking and procrasti-cleaning.

So, I think I’ve made reasonable progress. We’ll see how things go for the rest of the year!

My “process” has been disrupted

Hubby broke his finger last Saturday at work.

He wouldn’t even let me strap it until Sunday evening (after I called in the “big guns” – our doctor friend), and then he avoided going to the doctor to get an X-ray until Wednesday.

The tip of his right ring finger is crushed, and he is now off work for the week.

This is annoying for me, because I have a process, and now he’s in the middle of it and not helping :S

Case in point – Friday morning is when I wash the sheets and towels, but because Hubby is home, he’s still in bed asleep. So I can’t wash the sheets. There’s no point putting the towels through on their own, the load would be too small to be worth it in our machine.

I’ll get back to doing my essay now I’ve had that rant. We are at t-10hrs until it is due.

What’s been happening?

I’ve been sort of absent for a little while – many apologies!

I’ll try and get you all caught up with what’s been happening here in that time.

Uni
Semester 2 started, and we’ve got even more reading than last semester! I’m a bit behind on the readings, but that’s to be somewhat expected. We get 4 weeks break from classes from mid-September to mid-October, and during that time we get 2 study weeks and 2 weeks of prac. Looks like I’m going on prac during the second 2 weeks. I’m planning to catch up on all my readings during that time, because between now and then I’ve got 2 assignments and an exam. Thankfully, the exam is open-book, so I just need to know where to find the info.

Health
My physical health has been really good (except for good ol’ hay fever – the wattle started flowering about a week ago and my sinuses hate me right now). My mental health has been reasonably good too, except for the day I forgot to take my tablets, and the week when I overclocked my ability to deal with change.
I haven’t really been riding to uni much this semester (only ridden twice in the past 5 weeks), mainly due to horribly inclement weather – it’s been very wet for this time of year, and the nice days have pretty much only been the days when I’m NOT at uni.

Home life
Our washing machine appears to be on it’s last legs – Hubby pulled all the outsides off to fix some stuff a couple of weeks ago, and it seemed ok… Until yesterday, when it started making weird clunking noises during the spin cycle again. I REALLY don’t want to have to replace it, but we might not have a choice if the problem is what Hubby suspects.
Other than that, I’ve managed to mostly keep up with the housework, and I’ve been reasonably good at actually sticking to my meal plans. I also got an AWESOME new toy for my birthday – the slowcooker/ricecooker/etc magic machine that I’ve been wanting for ages 🙂 It’s having its slow cooker maiden voyage today – I’m making Chicken Teriyaki, and I’ll put the recipe up once I’m done. I’ve kept my little rice cooker as well, because I figure I will probably need it occasionally when I want to serve rice with something I’m doing in the slow cooker (like today).
Hubby and I have been doing date nights a little more often as well over the past few months, which has been really nice 🙂 Hopefully we’ll be able to keep that up for the rest of the semester.

Now, I’d better get back to studying and working on my assignments.

How not to do uni

Start with a night of limited sleep due to insomnia. Add one early morning for university. FORGET TO TAKE ANTI-ANXIETY MEDS before leaving for uni. Forget things you need for afternoon class and get informed when you arrive at uni. Proceed to have a mini nervous breakdown in first class because the workbook questions are badly written and confusing.

I’m now skipping my middle 2hr class so I can go home and get the stuff for the afternoon class and take my tablets.

Semester 1 Results!

Got all my Semester 1 marks back and I’m pretty happy

7 for Anatomy & Physiology, 6s for the other 3 subjects 🙂

Now just to keep that up this semester.

Wedding + stage show + a horrible horrible head cold/flu thing have combined to mean that I’m spending a lot of time reading/watching movies, and very little time doing anything else (I have been making good progress on my 2015 Reading Challenge list though). I will hopefully get back into the “normal” swing of things after this weekend.

I hope.

At the very least, I hope this cold/flu thing goes away! Ugh the only positive I can think of is that it’s a good thing it waited until the mid-year uni break to hit. Being this sick AND having to do uni work would have been a pain in the ass.

I’ve got a couple of book reviews I want to write, and a few recipes to share with you all, as well as possibly a couple of Tutorial Tuesday posts.

I’m thinking I’ll try to make “Motivational Mondays” a thing for next semester as well, even if it’s just for my own sake.

I’ve missed my 5:2 diet days because of the craziness around here, I’m hoping to get back on track once I’m not sick any more. Sick + diet did not seem like a particularly intelligent idea, so I’ve given myself a break until next week and I’ll see how I’m feeling then. Might be a further week before I’m back on it though, if I’m not feeling better.
